David Toop
David Toop (b. 1949) is a composer/musician, author and curator based in London, working in many fields of sound art and music since the late 1960s. He has recorded Yanomami shamanism in Amazonas, appeared on Top of the Pops with the Flying Lizards, exhibited sound installations in Tokyo, Beijing and London’s National Gallery, worked with artists ranging from John Zorn, Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, Bob Cobbing and Ivor Cutler to Akio Suzuki, Simon Finn, Camille Norment and Max Eastley. He has published seven books, translated into ten languages, including Rap Attack, Ocean of Sound, Haunted Weather, Sinister Resonance, Into the Maelstrom (shortlisted for the Penderyn Music Book Prize) and an autobiography, Flutter Echo, published in Japan in 2017. Since his first album, released on Brian Eno’s Obscure label in 1975, he has released twelve solo albums, including Screen Ceremonies, Black Chamber, Sound Body and Entities Inertias Faint Beings, and many collaborations with improvisers and artists including Alterations (Peter Cusack, Steve Beresford and Terry Day), Thurston Moore, Tania Chen and Ken Ikeda. His latest record is Dirty Songs Play Dirty Songs, released on Audika. Exhibitions he has curated include Sonic Boom at the Hayward Gallery, Playing John Cage at Arnolfini, Bristol, and Blow Up at Flat-Time House. His opera – Star-shaped Biscuit – was performed as an Aldeburgh Faster Than Sound project in 2012 and his collaborative work – Who will go mad with me – was performed with Alasdair Roberts, Sylvia Hallett and Luke Fowler at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in 2013. Professor of Audio Culture and Improvisation at London College of Communication, he is also the co-creator of Sculpture events with artist Rie Nakajima.

Angharad Davies

Angharad Davies is a Welsh violinist working with free-improvisation, compositions and performance.

Her approach to sound involves attentive listening and exploring beyond the sonic confines of her instrument, her classical training and performance expectation.

Much of her work involves collaboration. She has long standing duos with Tisha Mukarji, Dominic Lash and Lina Lapelyte and plays with Apartment House, Cranc, Common Objects, Richard Dawson’s band and Skogen.  She has been involved in projects with Tarek Atui, Tony Conrad, Laura Cannell, Jack McNamara, Eliane Radigue, Juliet Stephenson and J.G.Thirlwell.

Her album Ffansïon | Fancies was voted in the top 12 albums for BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction.

Yoni Silver
Yoni Silver is a London based multi-instrumentalist active in various fields of experimental music, composition, performance and improvisation. He has played and collaborated with the likes of Ana Maria Avram, Sharon Gal, Sophie Angel, Sarah Gail Brand,áAngharad Davies, Maya Dunietz, Karen Constance,áUte Kanngiesser, Catherine Lamb and Birgit Ulher; has participated in festivals such as Atonal, CTM, Colour Out of Space and Tectonics; and has appeared on labels such as Aural Terrains, Chocolate Monk, Creative Sources, and Confront Recordings.

I am a composer and also an improviser specialising in clarinets and lap steel guitar. After studying anthropology, I taught myself music by being in bands. When I compose I write for sounds and then for instruments. I try to make something that is adequately eventful for our crazy time.

Pablo Sanz is an artist, composer and sound recordist currently based in the UK. He makes site-specific projects, multichannel installations, immersive live performances, headphone pieces and publications. His activities are engaged with the exploration of aesthetic and spatial aspects of sonic perception, working primarily with environmental sound as raw material, using extended listening technologies, architectural physical space and spatial audio strategies.  http://pablosanz.info

Eddie Prévost plays with immense fire, grace and invention. Founder of the essential AMM, collaborator of the greatest improvisers internationally, since the 60s he has kept a continuous contact with the scene and always manages to invent anew his contribution to “meta-music”.
“Prévost’s playing confirmed that he remains one of the subtlest and most intelligent of free drummers.” The Guardian (UK)

Using a combination of feedback, conventional guitar techniques, and instrumental preparations, London-based electric guitarist James O’ Sullivan exploits the full sonic potential of electric guitar, amplifier and the environment in which both are placed.
His interest in improvisation, recording and performance has led him to record  and perform internationally, both solo, and with numerous improvised music groups. More longstanding arrangements include Found Drowned, a power-trio with Pete Marsh and Paul May, and his collaboration with Thanos Chrysakis on several releases on the Aural Terrains exploratory music label. His debut solo album ‘feed back couple’, was released on the Forwind label in 2011.

N.O. Moore has been in a relationship of mutual antagonism with the electric guitar since childhood.  Of his playing, his mother has said, “It doesn’t sound like anything” whilst, more recently, Eddie Prévost has commented, “N.O. Moore is the most interesting guitarist I have heard for some time.”  He himself says, “I am grateful for this opportunity to play with James O’Sullivan.  When James plays, he creates a great sonic environment.  I am looking forward to being in that environment.“

Improvised music from the trio of Tom Wheatley on double bass, James O’Sullivan on electric guitar. and Edward Lucas on trombone; and a cello solo from Ute Kanngiesser

Tom Wheatley is a double bass and electric bass player based in, and native to, London. He plays to open the bass – sonically and physically, musically and surgically – as to open suppressed musics. He is actively involved in new music communities of London and elsewhere, playing with Seymour Wright, Hebronix, Eddie Prévost, John Edwards, CYNTHIA, Mark Sanders, Yoni Silver, Billy Steiger, Denis D’or, Ute Kanngiesser and many others.

Edward Lucas is a trombonist from London. He predominantly plays new and improvised music with many players and groups from London and beyond. He has been involved in this trio with Tom Wheatley and James O’Sullivan for the last few years, soon after they met in the improvisational workshop sessions convened by Eddie Prévost. Together with analogue synthesist (and long standing musical partner) Daniel Kordik, he runs the Earshots Recordings label and concert series.

Ute Kanngiesser is a German cellist based in London.
“For over 10 years, I have only played unscripted/improvised music. I have experimented with the sound of the cello, limiting myself to the alive material at hand: vast and complicated layers within the instrument and myself; and to let this music evolve continuously in relationship with others. It relates to the process of uncovering an endless multiplicity of coexisting sense perspectives. And it deals with the energy that this gives rise to. For me, it is the most exciting place to play music from.”

Graham Dunning
Dubplates or field recordings have been central to Dunning’s work since his first exhibition in summer 2009. He favours recordings of mundane or prosaic soundscapes, recontextualised to draw attention to the layers, textures and intricacies present in the sounds of day-to-day life. The first time Dunning played a DJ set with the dubplates was at the Merzbarn, Cumbria in 2011, as part of a weekend residency with other experimental musicians. In a nod to Dada absurdity he borrowed the technical gestures and mixing protocol from dancefloor focused DJ sets.

Tom Wallace
His work is primarily in the acousmatic & radio mediums. Multimedia work has included sound design for the architects Foster and Partners. From 1998 he has collaborated with director Peter Reder on ‘City of Dreams,’ a theatre piece staged in London, Singapore, Brisbane & Bremen & more recently for Vancouver’s PuSH festival in 2011. Working with the London Musician’s Collective he helped set up Resonance104.4FM the UK’s first radio art station in 2002. He has contributed various shows seeking to redefine radio and incorporate other wireless technologies with the radio show ‘London Wireless Soundscape Project.’ As ‘DJ Wrongspeed’ he produced the controversial FM speed-reading ‘Pirate Flava’ show. As a DJ he ran the long running ‘Vinyl Pleasures’ night at London’s Foundry bar.

Colin Webster
London based saxophonist Colin Webster is quickly establishing himself on the European avant garde scene. Working with a broad range of collaborators, Webster is know for working from extreme sonic palettes – from minimal to maximal, constantly pushing boundaries.

Daniel Kordik
Daniel Kordik is a synthesiser player, improviser and field recordist, born in Bratislava (Slovakia) and currently based in London. Kordik plays regularly in an electronic duo Jamka and an improvised duo with the trombonist Edward Lucas with whom he co-runs the Earshots Recordings label.

Described by The Wire magazine as the most exciting trombone player for years, Sarah Gail Brand has recorded and performed on the international Jazz and Improvised Music since the early 1990s with Mark Sanders, John Edwards, Martin Hathaway, Billy Jenkins, Elton Dean, Evan Parker, Phil Minton, Lol Coxhill, Alexander Hawkins, Maggie Nicols, Rachel Musson, Wadada Leo Smith, Jason Yarde, Steve Beresford and countless others. She appears in Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle, series 1 & 2 (BBC TV) and with Stewart in the 2014 documentary Taking The Dog For A Walk

MASSIMO MAGEE
Massimo Magee is a writer, artist and musician based in London.  His work is wide-ranging, including fiction, text art, combined text, sound and image digital art pieces, experimental music (improvised, composed and everything in between), free jazz, obsessive and repetitive drawing pieces, radically extended saxophony, electronics, data manipulation and much more. Recent recordings include “Lazy Generalisations”, a solo release through Leerraum, “Interrogatories” duo with David W. Stockard on Kendra Steiner Editions, and “Charrette/Contrafact”, a sextet.

JONÁŠ GRUSKA

 Jonas studied at Institute of Sonology in The Hague, Netherlands and at Music Academy in Cracow, Poland. In 2009 he has started the LOM label focused on Central and Eastern European experimental art and music. Since 2013 he is organizing ZVUK, outdoor festival dedicated to experimental music. As Binmatu he has released an album on the Ukrainian label Kvitnu. He has authored interactive poems and visual performances, and is also a developer of musical instruments, artistic software and hardware. He gave workshops on city sonification, field recording, printed circuit board design, and programming for artists.
